MIRI: Sarawak recorded 3,237 road accidents in the first two months of 2025, resulting in 61 fatalities, 20 serious injuries, and 52 minor injuries.
Statistics released by the police showed that while Miri district saw a 12.5 per cent decline in accident cases, concerns remain over driver negligence, speeding, and traffic violations.
In response, the Sarawak Ministry of Transport has launched a road safety campaign to curb accidents and promote responsible driving during the festive season.
The campaign, officiated by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin today at a Shell petrol station along the Miri Bypass, aims to raise awareness about road safety and encourage motorists to adopt responsible driving habits.
In his speech, Lee stressed the importance of adhering to traffic laws, maintaining vehicles, and practicing safe driving to prevent unnecessary tragedies on the road.
“The data shows that human error is a major contributor to road accidents. This campaign serves as a timely reminder for all road users to prioritise safety,” he said.
“By driving with caution and consideration, we can reduce the number of accidents and save lives.”
