6 days in and still no sign of Rosman

TANJUNG MANIS: There is still no leads for a skipper who was feared drowned on Feb 10 after six days of the search and rescue (SAR) operation today.

The victim identified as Rosman Bakar, 52, was among three crew member who fell into the river after the Laning Drat ship carrying a cargo of excavators, capsized around 12am last Thursday.

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said the search was carried out within a 10km radius from where the ship capsized near Teluk Gelam.

Forty rescuers comprising firefighters, police, marine police, Sarawak River Board (SRB) Tanjung Manis and villagers, are involved in the operation with 15 boats.

As at press time, Rosman is yet to be found and the search is still ongoing.

On the day of the incident, one of the crew was rescued around 8.30am by an eyewitness who was on his way to Sarikei Hospital by river.

The next day (Feb 11) at around 5.10pm, rescuers found a body floating in Sungai Ipar Semop and retrieved it before handing it over to the police for further action.

The body belonged to Lim Pang, 61, and had been verified by the deceased’s family.
