KUALA LUMPUR: The 5th Asean-India Business Summit, which serves as an important platform to chart the future roadmap for both parties’ business and economic engagement, will be held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel here on March 6.

The summit themed ‘Strengthening and Moving Forward Asean-India Economic Relations for a Strategic Business Partnership’ is being held as part of the Asean-India Year of Friendship to commemorate over three-decade long engagement between India and the 10-member bloc.

Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia B. N. Reddy said in view of the 65 years of India-Malaysia bilateral ties, there will be a focused session on India-Malaysia bilateral trade and investment engagement at the summit.

“This session will focus on further deepening of India-Malaysia trade ties and expanding business engagement in areas including digital technology partnerships and fintech, among others.

“It will explore the opportunities and avenues for intensifying our bilateral trade and investment engagement to the mutual benefit of our two countries,” he told a press conference here today.

Reddy said the 19th Asean-India Summit held in November 2022 decided to elevate the                     Asean-India relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with a renewed focus, among others, to expand cooperation in trade, investments, digital economy, start-ups and sustainable development.

Meanwhile, co-chair of  Asean-India Business Council Datuk Ramesh Kodammal said the summit offers Asean and Indian companies an opportunity to collaborate through joint initiatives or joint ventures to increase their participation and role in the growing regional and global value chain activities.

Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil will deliver his keynote address at the summit which will end with a gala dinner and business excellence awards ceremony to 12 Asean and Indian based companies.

The summit is being supported by the Government of India, through the Economic Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, with partner organisations being Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry and Federation of Chambers and Commerce of India (FICCI).– BERNAMA
