MIRI: Dog owners thronged Miri Indoor Stadium early Sunday morning to have their pets vaccinated during a mass rabies vaccination programme.

The programme, the first for this year, started at 9am.

New Sarawak Tribune observed that dog owners came to Miri Indoor Stadium as early as 8.45am.

The programme is part of the government’s effort to prevent rabies outbreak through the Department of Veterinary Services.

A total of 59 dogs were vaccinated.

Tracy Mujan and William Wan, two dog owners met during the programme, said they came to know about the programme through a radio broadcast in Kenyah.

“This is our first time. We are bringing in our two dogs, both five months old, for vaccination,” said William.

He said they took the opportunity to bring their two pet dogs for vaccination because it was Sunday.
