KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested 56 foreign nationals during a series of coordinated raids held across the city last week.
The operations, codenamed ‘Ops Sapu’ and ‘Ops Selera’, were launched following public complaints and intelligence gathered by the department.
Raids were conducted at two shared residences in construction sites along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway and Jalan Ang Cheng Ho, rental rooms at Jalan Padungan, and an eatery in Batu Kawa.
Between late Friday night and early Saturday morning, immigration enforcement officers checked the documents of 75 individuals of various nationalities.
Of the figure, 56 were taken into custody for overstaying, lacking valid travel documents, and failing to secure proper permits to stay in Malaysia.
The breakdown of arrests reveals 14 individuals detained during the first raid, 28 in the second, 14 in the third, and two in the fourth.
All of the detainees are being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
