KUCHING: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has applauded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Kuching Branch for their continuous and unwavering efforts to give back to the community.
Through their Hana Krishna Food for Life programme initiative, they have distributed 500 packs of vegetarian ‘nasi lemak’ to citizens at Kota Sentosa wet market here today (July 23).
Lo emphasised that politicians and community leaders should take inspiration from ISKCON’s selfless approach to giving back without any conditions.
“If we follow in their footsteps, there will be no one left on the streets without food to eat or without warm clothing. Everyone will be taken care of,” he said after distributing packed foods to traders here today.
Furthermore, he commended the society for demonstrating good leadership by setting a good example of community service.
“The progress made by this society has been remarkable. For a small community such as theirs, their impact has been felt by the community at large,” he said.
Meanwhile, ISKCON Kuching chairman Reverend Prabhu Kripa affirmed their commitment to continue the Hana Krishna Food for Life programme on a monthly basis, aiming to make positive contributions to the community.
“We distribute 500 to 700 packed foods every month at different locations, including the 3rd Mile Market, the old folks’ home, the home for the disabled, and others where help is needed.
“We believe that the more we give, the more we get. Whatever the Lord has provided for us, we share it with others. This is our way to show thanks and take care of the less fortunate in the community,” he said.
