KUCHING: Fifty single mothers from Kampung Haji Baki have received daily necessities and food from the Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City here on Saturday (Oct 22).
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang was present to witness the handover of the goods in a simple handing over ceremony.
The club treasurer Rotarian Esther Hu said the main reason for donating necessities was because many people lost their jobs during the pandemic, which gave pressure to families with low income.
“So we decided to provide short-term relief to the single-parent families. Since 111 families are not a small group, we divided this donation project into four times of deliveries according to the donations received,” she said.
However she was glad to see that many breadwinners from the families had found new jobs and get their life back on track.
The donation came mainly from two companies, namely Regas Premium Auto Sdn Bhd and events planning company Red Velvet as well as 50 individual donors.
