KUCHING: The Pertanian Untuk Rakyat Sarawak (PUTRAS) project proposal was presented to the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU) in a session involving various government agencies and representatives of the Baram community.
Covering more than 49,000 hectares in Baram, including 8,300 hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, the project was submitted by MCCF Resources Sdn Bhd, which aims to develop the agriculture, renewable energy, and eco-tourism sectors in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“MCCF Resources plans to introduce a large-scale bamboo cultivation programme and to develop downstream sectors related to bamboo-based products.
“In fact, the proposal includes the construction of a biomass power plant that will complement the bamboo industry,” said PUSAKA Assistant General Manager, Hamzah Morshidi.
The session, chaired by EPU Sarawak Director, Datuk Lester Matthew, received positive feedback, with emphasis placed on integrated coordination between developers, government and communities to ensure the project’s success.
