KUCHING: No fewer than 45,000 jabs per day shall be administered as soon as Sarawak receives the vaccine supplies from the federal government, said National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick) coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The minister commented that with the said rate, herd immunisation in Sarawak will be reached even before the end of August.

“In this regard, new vaccination centres (PPV) are needed as well as increasing the capacity of the workforce which involves health workers and non-health workers to speed up the vaccination process in Sarawak.

“As per discussion, industrial PPVs in the factory areas and plantation areas are needed for its workers so that the employees would not need to go to other public PPVs for their vaccination.

“In addition, a committee needs to be established to coordinate the opening of these PPV in the state,” he said during a hybrid press conference in conjunction with his working visit in Kuching yesterday.

To speed up the pace of vaccination, it is necessary to go through the clinics of general practitioners (GP) and private hospitals.

“As of now, there are 23 GP clinics that are under PICK. Hence, we would like to increase it to 39 GP clinics and seven private hospitals in Sarawak.

“If there is a need, we can add more GP clinics that will be involved in the programme,” he said.

Khairy further revealed that the government will mobilise a mobile team to go to the rural areas, longhouses and others to ensure that the people there are vaccinated.

“In line with this, I have instructed Sarawak to adopt a hybrid registration system where some can register through their MySejahtera app while some can register manually via their Residents so that the registration process can be sped up especially for those who do not have digital devices and internet access in the rural areas.

“With the assurance that was given to Sarawak, I hope that Sarawak will be able to reach the target by the end of August and will be the first state to complete the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme,” he hoped.

On another note, Uggah mentioned that the state had implemented all the preparation needed for the completion of the programme to be achieved.

“The PPVs, officers, and support services that we have provided so far made us able to reach at least 50,000 injections per day,” he applauded.
