KUCHING: A total of 45 people from the asnaf group in Satok were presented with assistance in the form of cash and food baskets.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki distributed the aid in a ceremony at Dewan Anak Seni Kampung Bandarsah here today.
Of the 45 recipients, 15 were from the Kampung Bintangor sub-branch in Satok while the others were from Kampung Muda Hashim A and B.
Ibrahim in his speech said similar programmes were held in Satok annually during the fasting month for nearly 40 years.
“I remember that we started this programme when I became the PBB Satok youth chief in 1987 or 1988.
“It has been 37 years, and we continue to organise it without fail,” he said.
In the meantime, Ibrahim said another tradition in the constituency during Ramadan would be visiting mosques and suraus for Tarawih congregational prayers.
“During these visits, we also present assistance to the asnaf while at the same time, we distribute grants to the mosques and suraus to help them with their activities during Ramadan,” he said.
After the programme, Ibrahim also visited Masjid Al-Hakim at Kampung Muda Hashim to officiate at a bubur lambuk distribution programme followed by a similar programme at Surau Darul Qarar, Jalan Patingan.
The Satok assemblyman distributed bubur lambuk to road users at both venues.
