42 SOP violators fined

KUCHING: Police fined 42 people for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the movement control order (MCO) on Sunday (July 4).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching recorded the most compounds with 25, followed by Miri (five), Sibu (five), Bintulu (four), Serian (one), Padawan (one) and Lawas (one).

“The violations include failing to practise physical distancing (11); exceeding the passenger capacity in the vehicle (10); carrying out prohibited activities (six); gathering in public (five); being out in a public beyond past curfew (four); failing to scan the MySejahtera app (three); failing to wear face masks (two); and travelling between districts without a permit (one).

“This brings the total amount of compounds issued since Mar 18 last year to 8,810,” the committee said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing issued 10 compounds to operators of business premises under the supervision of various local councils.

Four compounds were issued under the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), three under the Bau District Council, two under the Sarikei District Council and one under the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council.

The SDMC said that the businesses were violating SOPs such as failing to update the customers’ logbook (six); failing to scan the MySejahtera app (two); failing to prepare a MySejahtera QR code (one) and failing to prepare a hand sanitiser (one).

This brings the total number of compounds issued by local authorities since Feb 1 this year to 1,234.
