MIRI: A large-scale post-flood recovery operation has been launched, involving more than 400 personnel from government agencies, the private sector, and volunteer groups.
Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the operation is important to assist residents with the disposal of flood-damaged goods and restoring affected areas to a clean and safe condition.
“We understand that many houses have been affected by the flood and homeowners need to clear out damaged goods and debris.
“Thus, to ensure an efficient clean-up, a large workforce and active community participation are essential,” he told a Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) Post-Flood Disaster 2025 press conference at the Resident’s Office yesterday (Feb 6).
Lee, who is also the Senadin assemblyman said a total of eight clean-up zones have been identified, although access to one area in Lereng Bukit remains restricted due to unstable conditions.
He added Pujut Sungai Adong is the first location where the operation began yesterday.
“To streamline efforts, affected residents will receive notification leaflets from the Resident’s Office, which will be distributed door-to-door by The People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA),” he said.
Residents have also been advised to place their waste and damaged items by the roadside for collection by the clean-up team.
“Close cooperation between government agencies, the private sector and the community is very important in ensuring that the recovery process goes smoothly.
“Therefore, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this operation,” said Lee.
