PADAWAN: A total of 39 outstanding students from the Biperoh Bidayuh clan received educational incentives from the Kuching Biperoh Association (KBA).
They are students who recorded excellent results in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
They each received cash and certificates presented by Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil at the 2019-2021 Outstanding Student Incentive Presentation Ceremony organised by KBA at the association’s hall here last night (Jan 27).
During the event, Jerip, who is also the patron of the association, said the achievements of Biperoh children in the field of education have shown a significant improvement based on the increasing number of students who have successfully continued their studies at universities and institutions of higher learning in various fields of study.
He said the number of those taking professional majors such as doctorate, engineering, law and finance is also increasing.
“This is a very good sign that we should be proud of and maintain, and it even needs to be upgraded to enable us to compete with other races in various fields and be able to compete at the global level,” he said.
The Mambong assemblyman also noted that the people of Biperoh and the Mambong state constituency need more intelligent and smart individuals in various fields, in addition to producing authoritative leaders.
Thus, he said, students in the Mambong area should work hard to master the necessary skills.
He said the state government is very serious about producing many smart students and encouraging Sarawakian students to further their studies in professional fields at local and foreign universities.
For that reason, Jerip said, the Sarawak government has established five elite schools throughout the state to produce smart students and finance the education of those students up to universities abroad.
“The government does not choose race in providing educational assistance to Sarawakian students.
“Whoever has excellent exam results and is eligible will be helped and funded for their studies,” he explained.
Therefore, he said, students should take advantage of the opportunities and scholarships provided by the Sarawak government through Yayasan Sarawak.
Jerip also said parents should also be concerned about their children’s education.
“Students should also study hard to create excellence,” he added.
He went on to say that the infrastructure and educational facilities of this era are much better than before, including the schools in rural areas.
Meanwhile, president of the KBA Penghulu Richard Deho, said that the awarding of educational incentives to excellent students was an effort by the association to appreciate the outstanding achievements of the students in question.
Apart from that, he said it also encourages other students to study hard to create excellence for themselves.
