37 foreigners nabbed in Sarawak’s central region sweep

SIBU: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested 37 foreigners in the central region of the state last Saturday (Dec 7).

The operation, which targeted factories, workshops, workers’ quarters, rental houses, grocery stores and convenience stores, were conducted at 10 locations around Sibu and Mukah.

Acting on public complaints and gathered intelligence, the Sibu Immigration Enforcement Units rounded up a total of 57 individuals for their documentation.

Of these, 37 were taken into custody for overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

The foreign detainees are being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The public is encouraged to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
