SERIAN: Some 350 bikers participated in a ‘Durian Ride’ organised by Sarawak Motorcycle Association (Sama) yesterday.

Among the participants were Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah with his wife Datin Zuraini Abdul Jaabar riding pillion.

The ride started from Jernang Petronas Station via Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, Kuching Outer Ring Road, Jalan Kuching-Serian (Jalan Tun Hussein Onn) before stopping at Tasik Danu Serian.

The riders feasted on some 500 durians at Kampung Sorak Melayu sponsored by Sama.

According to Abdul Karim, the event was aimed at enhancing relationship among members of the various motorcycle clubs in the state.

“These bikers comprised all denominations whether they own small bikes, big bikes, scooters, tourers etc.

Sama was officially registered on August 15 as an umbrella association for over 100 local motorcycle clubs in the state with over 4,000 members. That number is expected to increase tremendously when the association goes on a roadshow next year.

Sama aspires to be recognised as the state’s motorcycling authority, acting as the official platform for all Sarawak motorcyclists, while championing their rights to safe and courteous use of the roads.

Also present were founder of Kuching International Bike Week (KIBW) Datuk Seri Shahrizal Mohd Ishak and Sama president Datin Seri Elly Zalilah Mohd Yusuf.
