KUCHING: Sarawak police will be deploying a total of 343 police personnel for ‘Op Selamat’ in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration from Mar 29 to Apr 3.
The six-day operation will involve all branches and departments in the Sarawak Contingent to reduce accidents, in addition to enforcing traffic laws and regulations.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the statewide operation focuses on federal and state roads, especially in areas where accidents and traffic congestion often occur.
“We have identified 56 locations that are prone to accidents and we will increase patrols in the area.
“‘Op Selamat’ aims to create a sense of safety and comfort among road users by placing police personnel in locations where accidents and congestion often occur,” he said.
He added that the operation will also involve regular patrols to prevent housebreaking, especially at homes left vacant during holidays, to ensure their homes are safe.
Members of the public are advised to adhere to traffic regulations and instructions from enforcement officers on duty throughout the festive period.
“Strict actions will be taken against road users found violating traffic regulations.
“Road users should always prioritise their safety and that of their family,” he said.
