KUCHING: An estimated 3,000 visitors are expected to attend the Sarawak-level Malaysia Day Gathering 2024, set to take place at the Indoor Stadium of the Sri Aman Sports Complex on Sept 16.

Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn mentioned that initial projections estimated 2,000 attendees.

However, with growing public interest, he believes the turnout will surpass expectations.

“To accommodate the larger crowd, we are making additional preparations to ensure everyone can enjoy the event comfortably, even if the stadium reaches full capacity,” he said when met by reporters after extending a formal invitation to the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, during a courtesy call at Astana Negeri here earlier today (Sept 5).

Sagah expressed confidence that the event would proceed smoothly due to meticulous planning and strong collaboration among all involved, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone attending.

Additionally, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, along with state cabinet members and other dignitaries, are also expected to attend the event.

Sagah noted that the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS), as the lead agency, has prepared a variety of performances, including pre-event shows by Sri Aman Busker and D’Jaksa Band.

The cultural group Anak Seni Benak will also present traditional ethnic dances, highlighting Sarawak’s rich cultural diversity.

Visitors will also enjoy performances from renowned singer Hafiz Suip, alongside local artistes representing various ethnic groups, such as Ricky El, Karen Libau, Roxy Ixzy, Eddie Kuwing, Harris Mukhriz, and Raquel Then Xi Ya.

The event will be broadcast live on TVS (channel 122 Astro and MyTV), as well as on UKAS’ Facebook and YouTube platforms.
