KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested 28 foreigners for committing various offences on the eve of Labour Day (Apr 30).

Acting on intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit carried out simultaneous inspections and operations at seven locations around Batu Kitang, Kota Samarahan and Padawan.

Their focus was on eateries, furniture factories, convenience stores and shophouses.

The team inspected 36 individuals for their documentation and 28 were taken into custody for offenses such as overstaying their permits in Malaysia and working without valid passes.
