SIBU: The Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan (LCSP) has been praised for its active role and the deep respect and support it has garnered over the years.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian commended the club’s dedicated members for their unwavering service and commitment.
Speaking at LCSP’s 25th anniversary Silver Jubilee banquet at a leading hotel on Saturday (Feb 22), he described this milestone as a testament to the club’s dedication to service, community, and the noble spirit of Lionism.
“What makes this event even more special is the presence of all 25 past presidents of the club, along with the district governors who served during their respective terms.
“This extraordinary gathering reflects the deep camaraderie and gratitude at the heart of your club. It is truly admirable to see how you honour and cherish those who have laid the foundation for your success.
“Indeed, being a president is not merely a responsibility — it is a meaningful journey of serving together, overcoming challenges, and growing as a team,” he said.
Reflecting on LCSP’s 25-year history, Dr Sim highlighted its remarkable achievements, including the nurturing of two past district governors and one current second vice district governor — an outstanding accomplishment demonstrating the club’s commitment to developing capable and visionary leaders.
Among its past presidents, he noted, are exceptional entrepreneurs, successful business figures, and even rising political leaders, such as Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, chairman of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch.
He stressed that this clearly reflects the club’s ability to cultivate talent and foster friendships that extend beyond the Lions community.
Dr Sim further commended the club for celebrating its Silver Jubilee not just by honouring its past but by looking to the future with purpose and action.
“The successful conclusion of the three-day ASEAN Lions Leaders Summit, which brought together Lions leaders from nine countries, is an extraordinary achievement.
“This event is not just a celebration; it is a groundbreaking platform for fostering international collaboration and strengthening the bonds of Lionism across borders,” he said.
Hosting such a distinguished and diverse assembly, he said, demonstrates LCSP’s influence on the international stage and its commitment to advancing the Lions movement globally.
“It also reflects the core values of service, unity, and leadership that define LCSP.
“I have no doubt that in the years to come, LCSP will continue to shine brightly, bring positive change to society, and touch more lives with compassion and service,” added Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government.
Among those present were Lions International Director Zhao Dong; Council Chairperson Sompob Pichaiwong from Multiple District 310, Thailand; District Governor General Jagath Weerasinghe from District 306D8, Sri Lanka; District Governor Sammy Shun from District 303, Hong Kong & Macau; LCSP President Steady Tiau Kiu Ling; and Organising Chairman James Wong.
