BAU: Two hundred and five students here received Yayasan Sarawak School Uniform Assistance Vouchers at Bau Civic Centre on Monday (Aug 24).
Of the total, 191 students were from Tasik Biru while the rest were from Opar.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, who officiated at the event, said 26,175 students from all over Sarawak had benefited from the programme.
“For this programme, the state government had set aside an allocation of RM4 million a year to help the less fortunate families,” he explained.
He also said that with such assistance, parents had no more excuse not to send their children to school.
“As the people’s representative, I also channel assistance through minor rural project (MRP) to students who are unable to further their studies at public institutions of higher learning,” he added.
Henry also revealed that in the near future, Bau Civic Centre would undergo a RM1 million facelift to provide more comfort to the local community.
