SARATOK: The rural community is set to reap significant benefits from numerous new initiatives undertaken by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, emphasised that the GPS government’s plans are not mere rhetoric but are aimed at advancing Sarawak’s development in 2025 and beyond, with a primary focus on transforming the rural landscape.

“The Sarawak Budget 2025 allocates RM6.8 billion, or 62 per cent of development expenditure, specifically for infrastructure and basic facilities in rural areas.

“This demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in development progress.

“It is clear evidence of the government’s intent to share the benefits of development with the people,” he told Suara Sarawak today.

Additionally, Mohamad highlighted free higher education as a landmark initiative.

“This initiative ensures that more Sarawakian children are qualified and able to utilise new technologies to drive Sarawak’s development.

“By 2026, Sarawak will be the first region in Malaysia to offer free education to all its children enrolled in government-owned universities and higher education institutions,” he said.

Furthermore, the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS) for 2025 will assist low-income groups by providing essential aid.

Mohamad also underscored the importance of the government’s initiative to construct 12 new bridges, which will enhance accessibility and facilitate public movement.

As Sarawak turns a new page in 2025, Mohamad outlined hopes in three main areas: economy, social development and politics.

“My hope is for Sarawak to continue driving sustainable economic growth, focusing on high-value industries such as petrochemicals, green technology and the digital economy.

“I also hope Sarawak becomes a region capable of providing free access to quality education for its children, along with improved healthcare facilities.

“When these goals are met, harmonious relation among communities will be strengthened through programmes promoting interfaith and interethnic understanding.

“Most importantly, I want Sarawak’s political stability to remain intact, with leaders working together for the people’s benefit, regardless of party differences,” he added.

Mohamad also urged the Federal Government to fulfil Sarawak’s demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including greater autonomy in education and healthcare.
