KUCHING: The third-generation Isuzu D-Max, introduced in 2021, has established itself as a top-tier pickup truck, setting a new standard for design, technology, and performance. With over 340,000 units sold globally, this pickup continues to dominate the market. Now, the 2024 Isuzu D-Max takes that legacy forward with significant upgrades designed to appeal to both urban drivers and off-road enthusiasts.

Shunsuke Okazoe, CEO of Isuzu Malaysia, emphasised the D-Max’s continued leadership in the industry. “The third-generation Isuzu D-Max has been the toast of the industry,” he remarked, “delivering an exceptional blend of Isuzu’s core strengths, advanced technologies, and refined craftsmanship. This new model raises the bar even higher, offering the next level of pickup motoring.”

Design and Exterior: A Bold New Look

The most striking updates to the 2024 Isuzu D-Max can be seen in its exterior. Isuzu has reworked the front end of the vehicle to deliver a stronger road presence while simultaneously improving its aerodynamics. Key changes include:

New Grille and Bumpers: The refreshed front grille and bumpers give the D-Max a more aggressive and athletic stance.

Headlights: The headlight cluster has been revamped, featuring Bi-LED units with integrated Daytime Running Lights (DRL), ensuring better visibility and a more sophisticated design.

Tailgate and Rear Design: At the rear, the tailgate has been redesigned with a lockable feature for the X-Terrain model, while the combination tail lamps enhance its dynamic appearance.

The D-Max X-Terrain model stands out even more with new matte grey overfenders, black bumper accents, and stylish new alloy wheels that complete its rugged yet premium look.

The interior of the 2024 D-Max blends high-quality materials with advanced technology, raising the bar for what a pickup truck can offer. Some of the most notable updates include:

10-Inch Infotainment System: The flagship X-Terrain model comes with a larger 10-inch infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This touch-screen system also features a 360° Around View Monitor for easy parking and improved visibility.

Ambient Lighting: The new model offers ambient lighting options that can be personalised, giving the cabin a more luxurious feel.

Leather Upholstery: The leather seats feature classic Japanese origami-inspired Miura design, providing not just comfort but also a touch of elegance.

The dashboard layout has been refined for better ergonomics, and soft-touch materials elevate the interior’s overall premium feel. The new 7-inch multi-information display (MID) provides essential driving information at a glance, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable ride.

Advanced Safety: Leading the Market

Safety has always been a priority for Isuzu, and the 2024 D-Max continues to impress with its full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The X-Terrain model has a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, making it one of the safest vehicles in its class. Key safety features include:

4th Generation Stereo Camera: A significant upgrade is the stereo camera, now with a 120° view, offering improved detection of objects, including children and pedestrians. The system can now recognise objects from up to 150 metres away, an improvement from the previous 120 metres.

Rear Cross-Traffic Brake: This new feature enhances urban driving safety. When reversing, the system will alert the driver to any oncoming vehicles, and if necessary, apply the brakes to avoid a collision.

Pedestrian Detection: Enhanced detection systems now ensure that children running across streets or pedestrians are recognised faster, helping to avoid accidents.

These updates to the safety system reflect Isuzu’s commitment to providing cutting-edge technology that keeps drivers and passengers secure.

Off-Road Capabilities: Rugged and Refined

The D-Max’s off-road capabilities are legendary, and the 2024 model further enhances this aspect with new tech. The Rough Terrain Mode, available on all 4×4 Double Cab models, makes off-roading accessible to even inexperienced drivers. When activated, the vehicle adjusts power distribution between the wheels to maximise grip, allowing it to handle challenging terrains with ease.

Additional off-road features include:

Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Hill Descent Control (HDC): These assist the driver when tackling steep inclines and declines, providing greater control and safety.

Differential Lock: Standard on all 4×4 models, the rear differential lock ensures maximum traction even in the toughest conditions.

800mm Wading Depth: With class-leading wading capability, the D-Max can confidently cross rivers or navigate flooded areas, ideal for adventurers and workers in challenging environments.

Digital Transformation: A New Buying Experience

Isuzu Malaysia is also embracing digital transformation with an innovative customer experience platform. Through Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), potential customers can explore the D-Max’s features without visiting a showroom. This is part of a broader strategy to make vehicle shopping more convenient and immersive.

According to Isuzu Malaysia COO Kenkichi Sago, “We are elevating the Isuzu Experience with our new digital tools, revamped showrooms, and a 360° virtual platform. This allows customers to discover the D-Max’s prowess anytime, anywhere.”
