KANOWIT: Fine weather and receded floodwaters have allowed 20 evacuees to return to their longhouse at Rh Suzusie Lily, Nanga Baloh Ngemah today (Jan 14).

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat, the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Serbaguna Nanga Ngungun was officially closed at 2pm.

On Sunday night (Jan 12), the residents were evacuated to the PPS after their longhouse was submerged in floodwaters up to three feet high.

Currently, only one PPS remain open at Kanowit Sports Complex Hall, which is sheltering 20 residents from 13 families from Rh Leo Sg Lipus and Rh Alice Jimmy.

Floodwaters at both longhouses in Machan had risen up to two feet on Monday (Jan 13), and evacuation was needed due to safety concerns.
