KUCHING: Kuching police raided 193 online gambling centres during a special Ops Dadu operation between January 1 and June 23.

Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said in a statement today (July 8) that a total of 213 males and 33 females have been arrested in those raids.

During the same period, he said the police disconnected the electricity supply to 38 premises.

“A total of 193 investigation papers have been opened; 154 are under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 concerning online gambling; 35 are under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 concerning the sale of unlicensed lottery tickets; and four are under Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for promoting online gambling using computers,” Ahsmon said.

He added that 172 of the 246 arrested individuals will be charged at the Magistrate Court in Kuching.

Ahsmon assured that the operations would be intensified to combat illegal gambling and advised the public to come forward to help with the investigation by relaying any information to the nearest police station.
