SIBU: Marine police here seized 160 illegal logs worth more than RM400,000 in an operation at Pulau Dudong, Batang Rajang here on Thursday (Dec 1).

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement yesterday said the operation codenamed ‘Ops Pensura’ was carried out around 9 am on Dec 1.

“During the operation, a team of officials found the pile of logs tied to a raft along the riverbank.

“Examinations revealed that the logs were believed to have been illegally felled as they did not carry any marking from the Sarawak Forest Department,” he said.

The logs valued around RM408,000 were handed over to the Sibu Forest Department for further action.

Zulkipli said the case is being investigated under the Sarawak Forestry Ordinance 2015.
