KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen media practitioners of the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) conducted a visit to the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat here on Thursday.

The visit by association members was led by NSJA president Chai Choon Chin.

Chai said the four-day study visit was part of NSJA’s programme in collaboration with Miri Member of Parliament (MP) Chiew Choon Man.

“This visit aims to expose media practitioners in Sarawak, especially those from the northern region, to the parliamentary proceedings.

“It is a valuable opportunity for our members, especially for those who have never experienced attending parliamentary sessions.

“Furthermore, it also provides them with the opportunity to witness the actual situation in Parliament and to meet face-to-face with representatives from various constituencies,” he said during an interview.

The visit, he said, was also intended to allow media practitioners to understand the roles and responsibilities of MPs and ministers.

During the visit, NSJA members also had the opportunity to meet with several ministers from Sarawak including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi as well as Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil and his deputy Teo Nie Ching.
