154 logs seized, six men arrested

JULAU: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) seized 154 logs of various types and sizes in an operation dubbed ‘Op Taring Libas’ yesterday (Jan 13).

According to Sarawak GOF Brigade commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, the GOF 10th Battalion intelligence branch raided a suspected illegal logging site in the district at around 7.30 am.

The team arrested six men, comprising of five locals and an Indonesian, aged between 34 and 59, at the scene.

“Further inspections also led to the seizure of 154 logs, two chainsaws, three bulldozers, and a pick-up truck.

“The estimated seizure value is RM3,312,000, according to market price,” he said in a statement.

Che Ghazali added that the suspects and seizures were handed over to the Sarikei Forest Department for further action.

The case is being investigated under the Forests Ordinance 2015.

Between Jan 1 and 13, the Sarawak GOF Brigade recorded seizures worth RM48.8 million involving 12 cases that led to the arrest of 34 people (29 locals and five foreigners) and seizure of 13 vehicles.
