KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 150 participants from eight villages here have benefitted from the Home Composting Workshop organised by the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) recently.
The workshop held at Kampung Naie Lama Community Hall involved the villages namely Kampung Mang, Kampung Empila, Kampung Niup, Kampung Tanjung Tuang, Kampung Melayu, Kampung Naie Lama, Kampung Bangka Semong, and Kampung Nakong.
According LCDA in a statement, the workshop, organised in collaboration with the Muara Tuang Women’s Economic Development Association and the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Naie, is part of the Authority’s annual ‘LCDA Prihatin’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The programme aims to raise awareness about the importance of segregating household waste, particularly food waste, to promote environmental sustainability.
It also empowers women, especially mothers, to generate additional income, helping them navigate economic uncertainties and support their families.
Under the theme ‘LCDAprihatin 2024’, the workshop also aligns with the Zero Food Waste Campaign by 2030, which is part of the Sarawak government’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030.
During the workshop, participants learned composting techniques, including proper waste segregation and simple, odour-free storage methods.
Meanwhile, LCDA plans to expand the programmme in collaboration with various government and private agencies to spread the benefits of environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives.
Earlier, LCDA acting general manager Kusyairi Bostani officiated at the workshop.
