KOTA SAMARAHAN: About 50 riders partook in the Asian Pacific Master Game (APMG) Torch Run 2018 to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Compound, yesterday.
The torch run event organised by Malaysian Association of Local Authorities (MALA) will take 99 days, covering 3,908 kilometres involving every state and to be ended in Penang on this coming 8 September.
During the event yesterday, the torch was brought and paraded for public view starting from Batang Sadong Brigde by 50 runners and handed to 50 cyclists at Asajaya Town Square in Kota Samarahan. Thereafter, the torch was paraded by the cyclists covering a journey of 30 kilometres to Samarahan New Bridge and then subsequently handed over to 50 riders who continued the parade that ended in Unimas compound.
In the varsity compound, the torch run was greeted by Samarahan Municipal Council Walikota, Dato Peter Minos; representative of MALA Rashidah Jalaludin; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students Affairs and Alumni) Professor Mohamad Fadzil Abdul Rahman.
The first of its kind being organised in Malaysia the APMG 2018 will be held in Penang starting from 7 until 15 September this year.
More than 10,000 athletes and officials from 100 countries will converge on Penang to participate in 21 sports events. Among the sports events are football, badminton, squash, tennis, pingpong, archery and others.
