SARIKEI: A total of 140 street lights are being installed along Jalan Kwong Ming/Minah with a government allocation of RM1,274,000. Meanwhile, 168 street lights are being installed along Jalan Meruton/Merudu with an allocation of RM1,525,100.

Deputy Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Datuk Huang Tiong Sii, who is also the Sarikei MP, said in a press release that the installation works, which began late last year, are now in their final stages and are expected to be completed soon.

This project is the result of his efforts to bring the concerns of the local community to the Sarawak State Assembly, which eventually led to government approval.

“Once this project is completed, it will significantly benefit the local residents and road users, especially at night. This initiative will enhance safety and convenience for all,” he said.

During a recent site visit, Kapitan Ling Dien Yong represented Huang, who is also the Repok assemblyman, accompanied by Sarikei District Council chairman Wong Zee Yeng, and village chief Huang Tiong Kang.

Huang has consistently worked to ensure that the voices of Sarikei residents are heard and considered in government planning. His priorities include developing schools, churches, temples and other basic infrastructure to improve the wellbeing of the local community.

He also expressed gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his support and approval of allocations for development projects in Sarikei.

“The Premier is a people-centric leader who is committed to championing the welfare of the people. With this collaboration, I am confident that Sarikei will continue to progress significantly in terms of infrastructure development,” he added.
