SIBU: A total of 1,000 Pelawan constituents thronged the CCK Local here as early as 8am to redeem their free whole chickens today (June 29).
According to Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, a total of 500 whole chickens were sponsored by him, while another 500 whole chickens were donated by CCK Local.
He said that it was held to coincide with the Jualan Rahmah programme by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
“This time (for the Pelawan constituency Jualan Rahmah programme), not only do we have special subsidised prices (by KPDN) for goods, especially daily essentials, we also added free whole chickens.
“The recipients were those constituents (in Pelawan) who registered with our service centre to get the voucher (to redeem the chicken), and surprisingly we managed to finish (distribute) it within a day,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after distributing 1000 whole chickens to the recipients at CCK Local here today (29 June).
The Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government acknowledged the difficulties faced by the people due to high living expenses nowadays.
“I will continue to play my role in helping them reduce stress from this very challenging daily living.
“So, I hope that the federal government will continue to launch these Jualan Rahmah programmes to help us have some subsidised merchandise, especially daily essentials,” he added.
Tiang also highlighted several Sarawak Government initiatives in helping Sarawakians, such as the Kenyalang Gold Card and free tertiary education.
